The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region has purchased a new office building in downtown Danville. The Foundation moved to 541 Loyal Street, the former law office of Brian Turpin on March 5.

"We are so happy with our new space," said Foundation President Connie Fletcher. "Our Board and staff looked for the right location for nearly two years. We are pleased to be able to stay in the downtown area since we have frequent work with bankers and attorneys."

The Community Foundation Board voted in December to purchase the building using unrestricted assets. The total purchase price was $300,000, but $52,500 of the sale was generously gifted by Brian and Teresa Turpin. Donations are also being accepted to help replace the unrestricted funds with $7,250 received so far.

"The Turpins' generosity really made this move possible," stated Debra Dodson, Executive Director of the Foundation. "We had planned to lease a new location and were dismayed that rental rates were constantly increasing. Our Board saw this purchase as another wise investment."

The two-story building has over 3,000 square feet, including 7 offices, a conference room and 10 parking spaces. The Foundation is considering leasing some of the second floor space. An open house is being planned in late April, but donors and friends are welcome to visit anytime

The Foundation was formerly located in a two-room office with 420 square feet in First Citizens Bank. The hiring of a third employee further necessitated the need for additional space. Jo Ann Herndon began as Program Officer on March 1. Herndon will oversee the grantmaking and scholarship process which now exceeds $1 million annually.

The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region is a public charity established in September 1996 by a steering committee of civic leaders to meet a variety of social, educational, cultural and other charitable needs. The Foundation serves a region from Martinsville/Henry County to South Boston/Halifax County, including the neighboring North Carolina counties.
