Scholarship to Benefit Northern Pittsylvania Co. Students

CHATHAM, VA -- A college education will become more
affordable to Northern Pittsylvania County students, thanks to a new scholarship
fund established with THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION (serving
Danville, Pittsylvania and Caswell).
Frances Hallam Hurt, long active in civic and cultural enterprises,

The John L. Hurt, Jr. Scholarship Fund will provide college scholarships
to students from Northern Pittsylvania County, with a preference for students
who have attended the John L. Hurt, Jr. Elementary School. Students interested
in applying should contact their high school guidance department for more
information prior to Spring of 2003.
"We are so pleased to announce this gift," said Dugan Maddux, acting
chairman of THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION Board of
Directors. "Through the generosity of Mrs. Hurt, we will be able to make
a difference in the lives of many area students."
Others who wish to honor the Hurt family can also donate to the John
L. Hurt, Jr. Scholarship Fund by sending a donation designated for the
Hurt Fund to THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION . THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION is a public charity with total assets
exceeding $10.5 million. Over 600 community foundations exist in the United
States, with 20 in Virginia.
