Robert T. Vaughan has been elected president of THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION , a local charity serving Danville, Pittsylvania
Vaughan is a partner with Daniel, Vaughan, Medley and Smitherman. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University before earning his law degree at Washington and Lee University.
He is serving on the Board of Governors for the Litigation Section of the Virginia Bar Association. His history of community service includes the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce, Danville Area Retarded Citizens, Danville Cancer Association and Big Brothers Big Sisters. He has served on THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION Board since 1996, including the Executive Committee and the Nominating Committee.
Five new directors joined the Foundation's Board of Directors to replace the first class of retiring directors - Richard Barkhouser, Bonnie R. Cooper, John E. “Eddie” Herndon, Jr., Samuel A. Kushner and Vaden L. Wright.
Barkhouser is president of Barkhouser Motors, Inc. He currently serves on the Averett University Board of Trustees and the Danville Community College Board.
Cooper is a free-lance writer and editor in her own business, WordPower, and a former executive editor of the Danville Register & Bee. She is first vice president of the YWCA Board of Directors and a member of the state subcommittee for the Jamestown 2007 celebration.
Herndon is area vice president for First Citizens Bank. He is a member of the Chatham Rotary Club and has served on the Woodlawn Academy Board of Trustees.
Kushner is a partner with the law firm Carter, Craig, Bass, Blair & Kushner. He currently serves on the Danville Community College Educational Foundation and is a past president of the Danville Bar Association.
Wright is a partner with the accounting firm Harris, Harvey, Neal & Co. He is a current member and a past president of the Woodlawn Academy Board of Trustees and is a past president of the Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce.
Four founding Board members of THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION retired after six years of service - Dorothy W. Adams, E. Budge Kent, Jr., Fred B. Leggett, Jr. and Katherine F. Watlington.
THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION is a public charity established in September 1996 by a steering committee of civic leaders to meet a variety of social, educational, cultural and other charitable needs in the Martinsville-Henry/County to South Boston/Halifax County, including the neighboring North Carolina counties.
