Academically gifted students can tackle new challenges thanks to an endowment fund established with THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION . An anonymous donor has created the Keokee Fund to promote education for academically gifted students, including scholarships for such students.

Applications will be accepted for the Keokee Fund, beginning in 2004.

"We are so pleased to announce this gift," said Robert Vaughan, chairman of THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION Board of Directors. "Through the generosity of this donor, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of many area students."

Others who wish to support academically gifted students can also donate to the Keokee Fund by sending a donation designated for the Keokee Fund to THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION . THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION is a public charity with total assets exceeding $10 million. Over 600 community foundations exist in the United States, with 20 in Virginia.
