THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION announced today a total of $84,000 in new grants to nearly 30 non-profit community agencies at a reception in DIMON’s Carrington Center. Also recognized were recipients of grants awarded within the past six months, totaling almost $200,000. This is the seventh year of operation for the Foundation, with total grants returned to the community now nearing $2 million. The following organizations’ grants were approved by the Distribution Committee from the various THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE DAN RIVER REGION Funds: W. Earl & Elise M. G. Allen Fund –
to benefit the people of Chatham and Pittsylvania County
- Hargrave Military Academy – ($3,300) - to purchase a PowerPoint presentation system for the General Colin Powell Center for Leadership and Ethics - Northern Pittsylvania County Food Center – ($1,500) - to add meat products to distribution boxes - Oak Grove Residential Care – ($2,800) – to replace worn-out and malfunctioning stove - Town of Chatham – ($2,000) – to purchase four new trash receptacles to improve downtown appearance P. Niles Daly, Jr. Fund – to help meet
a variety of social, educational, health and other area needs
Philip and Frances Daly Fund – to help
meet a variety of social, educational, health and other area needs
Daniel Fund – to help meet humanitarian needs
in Danville and Pittsylvania County
- Danville Sheriff’s Office/Project Lifesaver – ($3,500) – to purchase electronic monitors for tracking of patients - Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic – ($1,000) - to provide digital playback machines and software to help area students with blindness, dyslexia and other conditions Faith Home Fund – to meet current, emerging and
evolving community needs
Gamewood Technology Fund – for programs utilizing
information technologies for the improvement of the lives of children,
the elderly, and persons with illness and disabilities
Clarence Giles Fund– to help meet a variety of
social, educational, health and other area needs
- Boys & Girls Club – ($800) - to help purchase technology equipment and supplies - Caswell Family Medical Center – ($800) – to purchase a Schuco-Vac 130 Aspirator - Chatham First – ($3,950) – to purchase seasonal and special event banners - Contact Crisis Line – ($3,200) – to support a portable Helpline answering workstation - Danville Area Association for Arts & Humanities – ($1,500) – to purchase a Hearing Helper assistance system - Danville Church-Based Tutorial Program – ($3,900) – to purchase educational supplies and after-school snacks for students at 39 sites - Danville Life Saving & First Aid Crew – ($5,900) – to purchase a two-way radio system to assist dive team - Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History – ($1,500) – to develop audio self-guided tours for adults, children and Hispanics - Dry Fork Volunteer Fire Department – ($835) – to provide basic life saving equipment to help immobilize injuries - God’s Storehouse – ($2,500) – to replace a household size refrigerator and five chest freezers - Mt. Cross Volunteer Fire Department – ($3,500) – to purchase new and clean other turn-out gear - Pittsylvania County Schools/Family Life Education – ($1,200) – to provide two parent sessions to promote healthy lifestyles in children Harry Melton Hood Fund– to help meet a variety

- Danville Reading Center – ($500) – to purchase a multi-sensory literacy program - Providence Fire & Rescue – ($1,200) – to purchase a carbon monoxide detector - W.W. Organizations wishing to be added to the mailing list for applications should contact the Foundation’s office. Grants are expected to be made on an annual basis.
