Established with Community Foundation
For more information, Debra L Dodson A new endowment fund to help children with chronic and life threatening diseases has been established with The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region. The Kang-A-Rhue Children’s Cancer Fund was established by Linda P. Rhue, in memory of her husband, E. Terry Rhue, who died of cancer June 29, 1999. "Terry was always touched by the strength of the smiles from the children he met while they were undergoing treatment in the same facility and wanted to ease their pain through providing avenues for a better quality of life,” explained Linda Rhue. The fund will fulfill her husband’s desire of enriching the lives of area children with chronic and life threatening illnesses and their families, with a major focus on those children with cancer. Others whose lives have been similarly impacted may wish to make additional tax-deductible gifts to the Kang-A-Rhue Children’s Cancer Fund. After one year, the fund will begin to make grants to charitable organizations that assist such children, such as Danville Cancer Association, Make-a-Wish Foundation and the Victory Junction Gang camp. The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region is a public charity with total assets exceeding $12 million. Over 650 community foundations exist in the United States, with 20 in Virginia.
