VIC MILLNER ELECTED PRESIDENT
OF THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

H. Victor Millner, Jr. has been elected president of The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region, a local charity serving the areas from Martinsville/Henry County to Halifax County, including the neighboring North Carolina counties. Local attorney Samuel Kushner will serve as vice president. Vaden L. Wright, CPA, and Bonnie Cooper will continue roles as treasurer and secretary of the organization. Ben Davenport will serve as the past president.

Millner, a native of Lynchburg, spent the early part of his life in Danville and is a graduate of George Washington high School. He has practiced law in Chatham and Danville continuously since 1960. Millner was a former member of the Virginia State Bar Governing Council, and the Executive Committee of the Virginia Bar Association. He has served as President of the Pittsylvania County Bar Association and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Danville Regional Health Foundation and the Danville Science Center, Inc.

Millner received both his undergraduate and law degrees from Washington & Lee University in Lexington. He is a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Chatham.

Seven new directors joined the Foundation's Board of Directors to replace the third class of retiring directors - Ruby Archie, Wilson Carter, Betty Sartin, Carroll Thackston, and Jack C. Turner.

Archie is retired from the Danville Public Schools in 1993, after 37 years of service. She served as head of the English Department at George Washington High School as well as Langston High School before going to GWHS in 1970. She currently serves on the Danville City Council and is a past Mayor.

Carter is a retired Episcopal priest and self-employed by Carter Coaching for Growth. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Caswell Family Medical Center and the Founding Steering Committee of the Caswell Broadband Foundation.

Sartin is retired from teaching in the Danville Public Schools from 1959 - 1985. She is Past President of the Wednesday Club and past Board Member of the Harvest Jubilee, Caswell County Economic Development, and Caswell County Chamber of Commerce. She is also a past NFL Teacher of the Year. She currently serves on the Board of Education of Caswell County and is active with the Providence Fire and Rescue Squad.

Thackston is a retired Major General. He currently serves as Mayor of South Boston. He is a Board member of the Halifax Education Foundation, Halifax-South Boston YMCA, Halifax County Museum and VMI Alumni.

Turner is a physician employed by Danville Pathologists, Inc. He serves on the Board of the Free Clinic of Danville and the Board of Health for Caswell County.

Seven founding Board members of DPC Community Foundation retired after six years of service - Don Davidson, Randy Davis, Dugan Maddux, Bobby Scearce, Bob Vaughan and Robert Warren.

The Community Foundation is a public charity established in September 1996 by a steering committee of civic leaders to meet a variety of social, educational, cultural and other charitable needs in the Danville, Pittsylvania County and Caswell County area, as well as other localities lying within the greater Danville area.
