SCHOLARSHIP PROCEDURES
Application forms now available from this web site. Downloadable forms are within each scholarship listing.
Applications will be mailed by February 1, 2007 to all area high schools
and posted on our web site, www.cfdrr.org.
All applications must be
postmarked or delivered to The Community Foundation by Friday, March 23,
2007.

1. James W. Bryant, Sr.
and James T. Collie Scholarship –
Open applications for Pittsylvania County Public Schools graduates, preferably
students pursuing the fields of education or nursing.
2. Bernard C. Calvert Scholarship – Open applications
for Tunstall High School graduates, preferably students who attended either
Brosville or Stony Mill Schools.
3. John Watson Daniel Scholarship – Open applications
for graduates in Danville, Pittsylvania or Caswell County. Eligible students
who are descendants of employees or retirees of John W. Daniel Construction
Co. may receive priority consideration.
4. Danville Academic Boosters Scholarship – Students
do not apply directly. Awarded to the top 5 graduates of Danville Public
Schools as provided by the School System.
5. John R. and Betty B. Eggleston Scholarship –
Students do not apply directly - guidance departments of each school should
nominate one or two qualified students. For graduates in Danville, Pittsylvania
or Caswell County.
6. Margaret Spruce Floyd Scholarship - Students do not
apply directly - guidance departments of each school should nominate one
or two qualified students. For female graduates of public and private
schools in Danville and Pittsylvania County.
7. Roy G. and Joan F. Gignac Scholarship – Open
applications for students who are pursuing technical disciplines. ***A
SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY – Limited spaces are available for Gignac Scholars
- deserving and needy area students studying technical disciplines at
the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Gignac Scholars are eligible
to receive up to full tuition, fees, room and board through a Master’s
Degree, based on need. For graduates in Danville, Pittsylvania or Caswell
County.
8. Ray M. Harris Undergraduate Scholarship – Open
applications for graduates of public and private schools in Danville or
Pittsylvania County, with a preference for Pittsylvania County students.
9. Ray M. Harris Graduate Scholarship – Open applications
for graduates of public and private schools in Danville or Pittsylvania
County who are attending graduate school, with a preference for Pittsylvania
County students.
10. Stuart Harris Drama Scholarship – Students
do not apply directly - guidance departments of Danville Public Schools
should nominate one or two outstanding drama students.
11. John L. Hurt, Jr. Scholarship – Open applications
for Gretna High School graduates, with a preference for those who attended
the John L. Hurt, Jr. Elementary School.
12. Onnie H. & Bertie W. Milloway Scholarship - Students
do not apply directly. Averett University recommends local students with
a financial need.
13. Patrick H. Musick
Memorial Scholarship – Students do not apply directly.
Averett University recommends deserving students, with a preference for
academically qualified students who have a tennis-playing background.
14. Irene L. Pritchett Memorial Scholarship – Students
do not apply directly - guidance departments should nominate qualified
black graduates from the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County or the
Children’s Home of Virginia.
15. Alger Pugh Memorial Scholarships –
Open applications for GW High School graduates, with a preference given
to deserving GW football players or athletes.
16. Riddle-Francis Scholarship – Open applications
for Pittsylvania County Public School graduates, with a preference for
Tunstall and Dan River High School students who attended Tunstall High
School.
17. Percy and Velna Scearce Scholarship – Open
applications for graduates in Danville, Pittsylvania or Caswell County,
who actively support their religious convictions, are merited and have
financial need. Available for undergraduate or graduate study.
18. Spiros Skenderis Memorial Scholarship – Students
do not apply directly. The guidance departments of Danville and Pittsylvania
County Public Schools may nominate one or two students who have overcome
a hardship.
19. Eileen and Joseph Stendig Scholarship – Students
do not apply directly. The guidance department of Danville Public Schools
may nominate one or two of the deserving students with a financial need.
20. GW Class of 1955 Scholarship Eugene Stryker Scholarship
– Open applications for GW students with a musical background.
21. Louise P. Surles Scholarship – Students do
not apply directly. The guidance department of each school should nominate
one or two students attending the University of Virginia.
22. Andy Warren Memorial Scholarships – Open applications
for GW High School graduates, with a preference given to deserving GW
football players or athletes.
