27th Quality of Life Annual Appeal

The Community Foundation is excited to share that our 27th Quality of Life Annual Appeal has begun. We have set a goal to fundraise $27,000 by the end of 2023. Last year we surpassed our goal and we hope to do the same this year. Donors may apply their contributions to the fund of their choice, but this year we are focusing our appeal on The Foundation’s Hospitality Management and Tourism Scholarship Fund and the Unrestricted Community Fund.

  • Hospitality Management and Tourism Scholarship Fund – This new scholarship, established by The Foundation, will support students of all ages enrolling in local hospitality programs in our service area.  The scholarship will provide the opportunity for the attainment of valuable employment skills and help to develop a regional workforce for local hospitality-based businesses.

  • Unrestricted Community Fund – The Foundation’s Board and staff are committed to the development of this unrestricted grant-making fund, which supplies significant monetary resources to area non-profits for current, pressing community needs.

Thank you to all those who support our funds and make a contribution to our appeal!

Reflections from 2023 student scholarship recipients:

“I am honored to be awarded with the Steven Bruce Daniels Jr. Scholarship. This scholarship has enabled me to achieve my academic and career goals with a decreased level of financial burden. I am extremely honored to receive this scholarship, and I will continue to represent the Daniels’ family with honor and appreciation.”

“Receiving this scholarship is an incredible honor and a true testament to my dedication and hard work. It means the world to me as it not only recognizes my academic achievements but also provides vital financial support that will allow me to continue my education without having to worry about excessive student loans. I am immensely grateful for this opportunity and will make the most of it to reach my full potential and make a positive impact in the technological field.”

“I am so honored to be a recipient of the Alger Pugh Memorial Scholarship for the 2023-2024 school year. Like Mr. Pugh, some of my fondest memories at GW were spent with the football team on Friday nights. I cheered for 5 years and I am grateful for all of the sweet memories and friendships it brought into my life. I humbly express how thankful I am for this scholarship. This scholarship will be a great help to me and my family as I begin the next chapter of my education at VCU School of Pharmacy in Richmond, Virginia. Thank you to the Community Foundation of the Dan River Region for selecting me to be the recipient of this distinguished award. As I move on to pursue my doctorate in the Fall, I will be reminded of the love and support I always have back home in Danville.”
