Grant Education: Capacity Building

Are you a nonprofit organization in the Dan River Region (Danville, VA, counties of Pittsylvania and Halifax; and Caswell County, NC) without a specific project that needs funding next year? Consider applying for a grant that will build your organization’s capacity. A capacity building grant can help improve infrastructure at the organizational level and strengthen the organization by improving core systems and operations. Capacity building can take many forms, but the following areas would be considered for funding:

  • Advancement of Technology
    • To support software and other technology upgrades crucial to an organization’s operations, including but not limited to:
      • Financial software
      • Donor management software
      • Enhanced Cybersecurity
      • Replacement of aging equipment (computers, laptops, printers) that is not already budgeted.
  • Digital Marketing
    • Support for the creation of high-quality digital content such as testimonials and short videos to “tell your story”
    • Support to update or revamp a website in order to attract and maintain donor support as well as improve functionality
  • Improving Financial Health
    • For costs related to an organization acquiring its first independent audit.
      • Request must be for audited financial statements from an independent auditing firm and not for 990’s or other tax filings, reviews, compilations or agreed upon procedures.
