Disaster Relief Fund

In 2013, The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region established a Disaster Relief Fund to accept and strategically disburse local, regional and national funding on behalf of local disaster response and relief efforts.

Area funders encouraged The Community Foundation to open the Disaster Relief Fund as a vehicle grants and donations to be used for disaster preparedness unless needed for specific disaster response and recovery efforts. If a disaster affects our region, The Community Foundation would work through local nonprofit agencies to provide grants to agencies and possibly individuals as needed to assist with disaster response and relief expenses not covered by other sources. CFDRR plans to make 75% of all funds annually available for disaster preparedness through our competitive grant cycle. The remaining balance will be held for initial responses to area disasters. CFDRR hopes to also use the Disaster Relief Fund as a catalyst for area emergency response and nonprofit organizations to coordinate information and efforts. Donations to support local response and relief efforts can be made online at www.cfdrr.org or mailed to The Community Foundation at 541 Loyal Street, Danville, VA  24541. Please designate any donations for the Disaster Relief Fund at The Community Foundation.
