Scholarship Funds

Scholarship Funds can be structured to benefit students at any post-secondary education level, or, eligibility may be available only to students attending a specific institution or studying a single subject. A scholarship fund can be established to honor a loved one. The Community Foundation staff and Board will handle all the necessary administration to ensure that scholarships are distributed equitably.

Adkerson-Dodson Special Education Scholarship (‘12)

To provide scholarships for deserving Danville/Pittsylvania County graduates who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or licensure in special education.

William E. Barr Scholarship (‘13)

To provide scholarships for Danville-Pittsylvania County graduates attending Hampden-Sydney College.

Bennett-Bushnell-Jones-Kaufmann Scholarship (‘08)

To provide scholarships to second-year nursing students at Danville Community College.

Deputy Frankie Lynn Betterton Scholarship (‘12)

To provide scholarships for deserving Danville/Pittsylvania residents who have a financial need and who are pursuing a law enforcement career.

Robert R. Blackwell and Virginia M. Blackwell Scholarship (‘18)

To provide scholarships for Bartlett Yancey High School graduates, with a preference for those attending Mars Hill University or Wake Forest University.

Sadie Banks Brown Memorial Scholarship (‘21) – *Currently an Acorn Fund

To provide scholarships for African-American graduates of Danville and Pittsylvania County, with a preference for students attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCU), who have demonstrated a devotion to academics, or are otherwise talented, and who have a need for financial support.

James W. Bryant, Sr. and James T. Collie Scholarship (‘05)

To provide scholarships for Pittsylvania County graduates, preferably in the fields of education or nursing.

Bernard C. Calvert Scholarship (‘04)

To provide scholarships for deserving Tunstall High School graduates, preferably students who attended either Brosville or Stony Mill Schools.

Caswell County Schools Scholarship (’21)

To provide post-secondary scholarships to Caswell County Schools’ graduating seniors entering the field of education, who are residents of Caswell County, who have demonstrated a devotion to academics, and who have a need for financial support. The applicants intend to earn a bachelor degree for the purpose of teaching school in Caswell County Schools.

Frank, Mary, and Ray Compton Scholarship (’20)

To provide scholarships to area students, with a preference for Pittsylvania County students who have demonstrated a devotion to academics, or are otherwise talented, and who have a need for financial support.

Lawrence R. Dabbs Scholarship (’17)

To provide scholarships for deserving Caswell County graduates.

John Watson Daniel Scholarship (‘97)

To provide scholarships for graduates in Danville, Pittsylvania or Caswell County with a preference for descendants of employees or retirees of John W. Daniel Construction Company.

Steven Bruce Daniels, Jr. Scholarship (’14)

To provide scholarships for Danville-Pittsylvania-Caswell graduates attending either NC State University or Virginia Tech and plans for studying in the field of agriculture or with a high school varsity athletics background.

Danville Academic Boosters Scholarship (‘03)

To provide scholarships for top graduates of Danville Public Schools.

Danville Lions Foundation Scholarship (’16)

To provide scholarships to Danville-Pittsylvania and Caswell County High School graduates who are pursuing a health-related profession, with a preference for those in a graduate level of study, especially those studying sight and speech/hearing professions.

Danville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary/Volunteer Scholarship (‘07)

To provide scholarships for Danville Regional Medical Center employees and volunteers and their immediate families who are studying in a medical field.

Roy L. and Mary G. Doss Scholarship (‘10)

To provide scholarships for Danville-Pittsylvania County graduates.

Susan L. Edwards Scholarship (‘12)

To provide scholarships for students who are pursuing the field of radiologic technology, with nursing students as a secondary preference.

John R. and Betty B. Eggleston Scholarship (‘02)

To provide scholarships for Danville, Pittsylvania or Caswell County graduates.

Fairview Church Scholarship (‘17)

To provide scholarships for members of Fairview United Methodist Church who demonstrate a devotion to academics, or are otherwise talented, and who have a need for financial support.

First Responder-Hero Education Scholarship (‘13)

To provide scholarships for Danville-Pittsylvania-Caswell County High School graduates whose parents are armed force members or veterans, law enforcement officers, or fulltime or volunteer firefighters, with a preference for graduates whose parents were killed or wounded while performing their duties.

Margaret Spruce Floyd Scholarship (‘03)

To provide scholarships for female graduates of public and private schools in Pittsylvania County.

Gantsoudes Scholarship (‘08)

To provide scholarships for George Washington High School graduates who attend Virginia or North Carolina colleges.

Virginia Ann Miller Garmon Memorial Scholarship (‘21) – *Currently an Acorn Fund

To provide scholarships for Halifax County High School and George Washington High School graduates in memory of Virginia Ann Miller Garmon, in the fields of education, religion and business, who have demonstrated a devotion to academics, and who have a need for financial support.

George Washington High School Class of 1957 Scholarship (‘07)

To provide scholarships for graduates of George Washington High School.

Roy G. and Joan F. Gignac Scholarship (‘00)

To provide scholarships for area graduates pursuing technical fields of study, preferably attending attending Illinois Institute of Technology.

Meredith Wilson Gravely Memorial Scholarship (‘21)

To provide scholarships for Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Caswell County graduates in memory of Meredith Wilson Gravely, who are graduates, or former graduates, from Meredith Gravely School of Dance, with a preference for those pursuing studies in performing arts.

George A. Grekos Scholarship (‘19)

To provide scholarships for Danville/Pittsylvania County graduates, with a preference for Chatham High School graduates, who are attending Christopher Newport University.

Diane Marie Gross Scholarship (‘13)

To provide scholarships for Danville-Pittsylvania County graduates attending either Washington and Lee University or the College of William and Mary.

John B. Grubb Scholarship (‘07)

To provide scholarships for Danville-Pittsylvania County graduates.

Gail and Walter Gunn Scholarship (‘15)

To provide post-secondary educational scholarships to local African American students with a preference for those studying business or with an entrepreneurial interest.

Ray M. Harris Scholarship (‘04)

To provide undergraduate and graduate scholarships with preference given to graduates from high schools in Pittsylvania County.

Stuart Harris Drama Scholarship (‘03)

To provide scholarships for Danville Public Schools graduates who are outstanding drama students.

Douglas Sager Hayes and Mildred “Mickey” Hayes Scholarship (‘14)

To provide scholarships for Danville-Pittsylvania graduates studying art.

Eliza Patterson Hines Memorial Scholarship (‘15)

To provide scholarships for local graduates pursuing a career in teaching, preferably in grades 1-7.

Ruby Sartin Hovatter Educator Scholarship (‘17)

To provide scholarships for George Washington High School graduates or Bartlett Yancey High School graduates who plan to become a classroom teacher.

Hokie Bird Scholarship (‘13)

To provide scholarships Danville-Pittsylvania County graduates attending Virginia Tech.

John L. Hurt, Jr. Scholarship (‘02)

To provide scholarships for Gretna High School graduates with a preference for those who attended John L. Hurt, Jr. Elementary School.

M. Etta Jennings Nursing Scholarship (‘19)

To provide scholarships for Danville-Pittsylvania High School graduates in a two-year nursing program, with a preference for programs located in Danville, VA.

Robert and Bernice Milam Scholarship Fund (‘10)

To provide scholarships for members of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church or Stone Creek Church.

Onnie H. & Bertie W. Milloway Scholarship (‘98)

To provide scholarships for local graduates attending Averett University.

Patrick H. Musick Scholarship (‘01)

To provide scholarships for deserving Averett University students who have a tennis-playing background.

North Main Baptist Church Scholarship (’16)

To provide scholarships to members who are studying or planning to enter ministry-related fields, and have actively participated in North Main Baptist Church or college-related ministries.

The Plumblee Scholarship (‘19)

To provide scholarships to graduates of Bartlett Yancey High School in Caswell County.

Arnold B. Porter and Elizabeth J. Porter Scholarship (‘06)

To provide scholarships to members of Fairview United Methodist Church who demonstrate a reasonable need for financial aid.

Elizabeth Whitlow Reith Price/R.N. Whitlow Family Nursing Scholarship (’16)

To provide scholarships for graduates of Bartlett-Yancey High School who are pursuing nursing or health related professions at an associate, bachelor or graduate degree level study.

Irene L. Pritchett Scholarship (‘01)

To provide scholarships for black graduates of Danville/Pittsylvania County high schools and the Children‘s Home of Virginia Baptist, Inc.

Alger Pugh Scholarship (‘00)

To provide scholarships for George Washington High School athletes.

Richard Ramsey Scholarship (‘10)

To provide scholarships for top Gretna High School students.

Riddle-Francis Scholarship (‘05)

To provide scholarships for Tunstall and Dan River graduates.

Rotary Club of Chatham Scholarship (‘19)

To provide scholarships for graduating seniors from Gretna High School and Chatham High School, with a preference for students who are a member of their school’s Interact Club.

Rotary Club of Yanceyville Scholarship (‘13)

To provide scholarships for Bartlett Yancey High School graduates.

Samuel Manning Farmer Scholarship (’19)

To provide scholarships for Bartlett Yancey High School graduates who have demonstrated a devotion to academics or a specific talent, and who have financial need.

Percy and Velna Scearce Scholarship (‘00)

To provide undergraduate or graduate scholarships for area students who actively support their religious convictions, are merited and have financial need.

Skenderis Scholarship (‘99)

To provide scholarships for Danville and PittsylvaniaCounty graduates who have overcome a hardship.

Eileen and Joseph Stendig Scholarship (‘05)

To provide scholarships to Danville Public Schools graduates who have demonstrated a need for financial support.

Louise P. Surles Scholarship (‘98)

To provide scholarships for local graduates attending the University of Virginia.

Tricia’s Nursing Memorial Scholarship (’20)

To provide post-secondary educational scholarships for any age student pursing a nursing education (LPN or higher), who resides in Pittsylvania County or Danville, Virginia, or Caswell County, North Carolina.

Tunstall Academic Boosters Club Scholarship (‘17)

To provide scholarships for top ranked academic students at Tunstall High School.

Florence P. Wagner and Jennie Lee Wagner Scholarship (‘08)

To provide scholarships to Pittsylvania County high school graduates.

To provide scholarships for George Washington High School athletes.

Laurie Anne Wilmoth Nursing Scholarship (‘21)

To provide scholarships for City of Danville high school graduates attending Danville Community College Registered Nurse programs or Averett University Bachelor of Nursing Programs.

Woodlawn Academy Scholarship (‘14)

To provide scholarships for former Woodlawn Academy students and immediate family of former students.
