Scholarships through the Community Foundation support individuals of all ages who reside within the Dan River Region – Danville, VA; Pittsylvania and Halifax counties, VA; and Caswell County, NC. In 2025, we awarded more than $370,000 to 152 students.
We encourage all students to begin the application process early because incomplete or late applications are not eligible for scholarships. The scholarship portal opens January 1st and cannot be accessed until that time. The portal closes on March 1 at 11:59 pm.
Please contact our office at 434-793-0884 or email info@cfdrr.org if you have any questions.

Students may apply for a scholarship by submitting an online application from January 1 until March 1. We are updating our system, therefore the link will not be functional until January 1. Please note, while the system will remain open until March 1, students must apply prior to that date in order to have a complete application. A complete application includes an official transcript (one from Parchment or a signed copy from the guidance counselor or registrars office) and two letters of reference that are submitted through the portal (no hard-copy written letters are accepted).
Our application consists of two parts. The first part asks for general information: the student’s name, address, school or college, work, volunteer hours, etc. The second part is related to specific scholarships that require additional information.
Once the two parts of the application are complete, and any additional questions have been answered, the application may be submitted. Please note that once an application is submitted, no changes may be made to the application. Students may save the application throughout the process and return to it – therefore the application does not need to be finished in one sitting. We strongly encourage students to save and then review all answers prior to submission.
Once an application is submitted, students will receive an email stating they have successfully submitted an application. This does not mean that the application is complete because references and transcripts are still necessary.
Students may contact us prior to February 27 if they need to change something on the application. After that, no changes may be made, nor will applications be accepted. There are no exceptions. (While the deadline is March 1, since that date falls on a Sunday, you must contact our office the week prior because the office is closed February 28 and March 1 for the weekend.)
Students of all ages who reside within Danville, Pittsylvania and Halifax counties in Virginia and Caswell County, NC are eligible for apply for scholarships. On this page, you may resend the reference requests and you may “edit” the email address if you wish to use a different address from the one you entered when applying.
Applicants are responsible for making sure an official transcript is received. Screen shots of a class schedule or transcript are not acceptable.
Applicants may contact The Foundation at 434-793-0884 to confirm receipt of items. Please keep in mind that we are in the office Monday through Friday from 9:00 until 5:00. Please do not wait until the week of February 23rd to call our office because we need time to review the application and applicants will need time to gather any missing information.
The Foundation’s staff and the Distribution Committee (which is comprised of board members) review and score each application. Recipients are selected based on academic merit, financial need, community involvement, a personal essay and references. In addition, criteria put in place by the donor is also considered.
