The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region is pleased to announce the hiring of Dan Hayes as its new Executive Director, effective July 1st. With Dan’s extensive experience in the non-profit sector and proven track record of successful leadership in our community, The Foundation is excited to welcome him to the team.
Dan brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served locally in roles with Averett University and the Blue Ridge Mountains Council BSA. He held volunteer roles with Rotary, The Arc, Scouting, and his church. Dan has a passion for helping communities thrive through philanthropy and is committed to making a positive impact in the Dan River Region.
As Executive Director, Dan will lead The Foundation’s efforts to support local non-profit organizations and improve the quality of life for residents in the area. This includes The Foundation’s grantmaking programs, cultivating relationships with donors and community partners, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organization. “We are thrilled to have someone of Dan’s caliber join our team,” said Foundation Board President Scott Barnes. “His experience, leadership, and passion for our mission make him the ideal candidate to lead The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region into the future.”
The Foundation serves the region that includes the counties of Caswell, Halifax, and Pittsylvania; and the City of Danville. The organization manages over 180 charitable grant and scholarship funds with assets of more than $63 million. During the last fiscal year, The Foundation distributed $1.7 million in grants and scholarships, supporting a range of causes including education and youth, animal services, arts and culture, community development, emergency services, and health and human services.
Dan is eager to take on this new role and looks forward to working with The Foundation’s staff, board, donors, and community partners to make a meaningful impact in the Dan River Region. Dan shared, “I don’t believe I can overstate the importance of this opportunity to work with the generous donors and passionate volunteers of our region who drive the success of The Foundation. We are developing the image of how we want the Dan River Region to appear in the next generation.”
